The Story

Discover stunning architecture, captivating public art, and delightful spaces in San Francisco’s Central Business District (CBD).

This 2.5-hour walking tour explores diverse skyline architecture, public art that feels like open-air galleries, downtown’s unique open spaces, and much more!

We’ll showcase architectural styles from each growth era, including the London Paris National Bank from the 1906 earthquake rebuild, art deco gems like the Pacific Telephone Building, midcentury International Style towers, and modern “star”chitect-designed buildings from the tech era.

Stroll through CBD areas resembling outdoor museums, thanks to a 40-year policy dedicating 1% of office construction budgets to public art. Discover works by George Rickey, Jenny Holzer, Frank Stella, Jonathan Borofsky, and Ugo Rondinone around many corners.

Admire the towering Salesforce building and its 4½ blocks of park space, longer than the building is tall. This 5½-acre park, atop a transit terminal, offers quiet spots, yoga, concerts, a beer garden, and a fountain powered by bus movement below. Its gardens feature 600 trees, 16,000 plants, and zones replicating 13 ecosystems. Elevated 70 feet, the park offers serene views of nearby buildings.

Conclude at SFMOMA, one of the world’s largest modern art museums. Explore major artists’ careers, emerging local talents, or bite-sized displays of photography, fashion, and design. Interact with participatory artworks, visit the US’s largest living wall, and enjoy people-watching near the café’s tiered seating.

Celebrate downtown San Francisco’s hidden gems and iconic landmarks. Perfect for architecture buffs, art lovers, and urban enthusiasts, this tour reveals a vibrant, evolving cityscape and fresh perspectives on its unique charm.
